It was my birthday on Saturday and I will say that it was probably the best birthday I’ve ever had. It wasn’t complicated or overly busy. Just good food, good company

013

There is something about birthday’s that I just love. I think I might everyday to be my birthday.

017

Wave, Hug & Kiss

Sorry for the lack of posts lately but I’ve had a lack of motivation and inspiration. However it’s not that things have been bad just busy. I’ll update you on my last few days in a minute, but I just wanted to say I am now on Google Wave and although I still have a lot to work out I am enjoying it. So if you would like my Wave details let me know. It’s great for chat.

Well what can I say, it’s been a good few days. Thursday I went out to dinner with a friend Mark. It wasn’t a great day for Mark, cause he lost his job but I know he will land on his feet. So after dinner we decided to come home and we just lay on the couch hugging a lot and talking. After a while we decided to watch episode 7 of Glee. It was a good night. Besides it’s nice to have friends who enjoy hugs. I think we both really needed hugs that day so it was good.

On Friday I went to Brisbane and spent time with Ben. Ben is probably the sweetest person I know. So we had some KFC and just enjoyed the night. On Saturday after we both woke up we decided it was time for lunch lol, so we headed off to West End and had Vietnamese for lunch. It wasn’t bad but not one of the best meals I’ve had. I didn’t take pictures so I’m not going to review this restaurant this time. Maybe down the track.

After lunch we decided to head off to Southbank and watch Final Destination 4 (3D). Ok, it was a bad film, but the 3D aspect diverted our attention from the script or acting so it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Not sure what to do for dinner we decided to hit an awesome little Spanish Restaurant called, Miro’s. The service was amazing and the food was great. Particularly the Creme Catalana I had for dessert. I think everyone in Brisbane should try this place. The address is 154 Merthyr Road, New Farm.

As for me I’ve had a great weekend. I still struggle sometimes with the healing process from my last relationship. It’s not bad but it is strange that I still think of him each day. I guess that is part of the healing process. I will always love him and guess going through this process is part of the process. Anyway, another week is about to start and I am looking forward to some interesting twists in my life this week. I also have to remember to contact Nic. I haven’t spoke to Nic for a while and miss her terribly so I’ll have to remember to do that. Oh and contrary to what I thought, I look awesome in Skinny Leg jeans lol.

Beach & Dessert

Posted by: StevieD | Comments (0)

Well the weekend was as usual great. With it came a lot of time for me to think about my life and my world. Like everyone I guess we all live in our own world somewhat. I will be attending a work conference very soon and will have some time off work afterwards to do some major reflection which is just what I need. I haven’t had anytime off work since the breakup and I know I need it. Whilst writing this post I received an email from a dear friend which has again given me the kick I need. I will write more about my inner self soon. For now a few pics from the weekend.

It was such a nice weekend. Above are a few pics taken at Manly. I find this space very relaxing and we just strolled up and down until the wind got too strong.

As everyone knows I love food and although I can eat just about anything I also get cravings. I always say I’m worse than a pregnant woman. So even though I had heaps to eat for brunch I needed more so we decided to take a stroll to Freestyle. Sitting outside we started with some fish and chips and some dips but I was only interested in dessert. So we ordered a couple of desserts. You should definitely check out their site. Whilst eating, the dust storm started to take over and although it wasn’t as bad as the last one it still started to irritate my eye’s. The service at Freestyle was excellent, particularly the tall asian waiter with a strangely american accent. Must have studied American English. The waiter was exceptional and didn’t stop smiling the whole night lol.

After dessert it was a nice stroll back to the house and quite amazing to see so many drunk people at about 8pm in the Valley. Not a pretty sight. Quite funny since places like the Beat and other clubs were only just opening their doors. Actually it made me think about alcohol and I’ll write about that next. Anyway, I’m off to shower.

Weekend Roundup

Well the weekend was gorgeous as usual. I didn’t do anything special but it was this fact that made it good. The only shadow on the weekend was a little annoyance which made me feel quite violated. I mean I don’t really care but it did piss me off a little.

I was not at home this weekend, but while away I knew my mother was going to have visitors which was only my sister, her husband and her husbands parents. Now none of them had seen my place so I expected they would probably be taken on a tour of my house whilst they were visiting. What I didn’t expect was for my life board (which is where I keep memories of my life and things that mean something) to be hit lol. What I mean is it was deemed not appropriate for my sisters in-laws and a couple of pictures were removed. Neither of these were bad. One was a photo that was hidden under other photo’s so was fine and the other was a picture of my ass, which was quite hot lol but yet tasteful. I guess this made me feel quite violated. My home so if people are going to visit then accept what is in my home or don’t visit it. I just felt that this was my house and don’t touch it. I never made a big deal about this but it did trouble me.

In other weekend news, I ate a lot which isn’t unusual. It’s worth me mentioning two meals that I had. One was at this obscure little Japanese place on the Gold Coast. It was hidden away in an arcade and my guess is that it was targeted at the local Japanese community. That is one reason why I loved it. I have no idea what it is called but the food was spectacular. I have to admit it was the first time I had been served a raw egg with a meal but willing to try anything I followed the waitress instructions and the meal was great.

On the flip side of this, I have always promised to give you an honest opinion on food, so I will admit I was unimpressed with the meal and service that was dinner. After eating a few times at my favourite Indonesian restaurant in Brunswick Street Brisbane called Jakarta, I thought it would be good to try the little pizza place next door. It was called something like Johnny’s Pizzeria or similar. I’m one of those people that like table service and this place doesn’t offer it but hey I can live with that. After ordering a couple of small pizza’s and garlic bread and some drinks, we sat down. No problem. The first thing to arrive was the garlic bread. Now if this was really garlic bread I would be surprised. It was more like a french stick with some margarine on it. I could have done better myself. Then the pizza’s arrived and although they were ok, I would have to say they were very average. Not receiving drinks we had to ask for them. I also had coffee which although made correctly was shocking and poorly made. Tasted more like instant. The bottle of iced tea was served as a bottle. No glass, no straw no nothing. I won’t continue about this place but I can say this isn’t a place I would go back to.

I will have to talk about great French Pastry in another post, but I do have a few other things I need to get done tonight so I’ll come back to it. So I will write soon when I have a little more time.

Riverfire, Seafood & Narnia

Posted by: StevieD | Comments (0)

This week was one of those weeks I really needed distraction and in particular Wednesday and the weekend. It has a lot to do with my past relationship and events that meant a lot to me but in the end I have had a great weekend.

It started with Brisbane’s Riverfire! From Ben’s balcony there is a perfect view of Story Bridge and the view was spectacular and although the slideshow doesn’t show it well, the fuel dump by the F1-11′s was awesome. There are a few picture’s in the slideshow below.

Then there was lunch at “The Lighthouse“. I have to say that I would give the experience and food about 7/10 which is pretty good for me. The seafood platter was good compared to many I have had. I think even though it was quite a bit of food and a good selection I still think it was a little expensive but then again I am used to paying a lot less for quality seafood, but that’s another review. The food itself was excellent though and the dessert which I can never go past was really good. The atmosphere and view was excellent and it was the kind of place I could spend a whole day just enjoying the company and a few bottles of wine.

Whilst at The Lighthouse there was a lot of construction work going on in the water. Which is where I saw the ship below. After reading a little bit I realised this was a shooting location for the next Narnia Film, number 3.

Food & Review

Posted by: StevieD | Comments (0)

As crazy as this will sound, I love food. It doesn’t matter how much I eat I never put on weight. Call be a bitch now lol. In fact sometimes I can lose weight by eating a lot. It’s just simply in my makeup. Apparently I have a metabolism that people would kill for. I guess if only I was a woman I would be even more envied lol.

But in saying that I used to eat just to maintain weight because I never really get hungry so food was purely a means to staying alive. Over the past several years that view has changed because I just love food, so I do tend to eat out a lot. I’m always looking for new food experiences and as such come across some good and bad. So every now and then I will share some of my experiences. I’m not going to make this a professional exercise just me sharing.

Today I just thought I would share two recommendations. The first being a meal I had last night and the second being a regular haunt where I go to get my sweet fix. I will have to remember in future to take a leaf from Eddie’s book and take photo’s of my food but anyway.

The Jakarta which is the small restaurant was a decision to eat at simply because it was close to where I was staying. This restaurant was incredible. From the minute we walked in the service was immediate. Happy greetings, quick to be seated and immediately felt at home.

As I was going to be driving later I started with coffee, which is a huge thing for me. I am a coffee fanatic and have to admit, irrelevant of the food if I don’t like the coffee, I may never return lol. The coffee was good. Not great but good and I would rate it 7/10.My meal was Ayam Bumbu Bali (Balinese Spicy Chicken). This meal was amazing and you could taste the ginger and lemon grass. The steamed rice which you would think is a simple thing was in fact so perfect I could have sat there and ate it and nothing else. Although tempted to have entrees and desserts, this time we didn’t because of a huge lunch/breakfast. That I will talk about another time. You can check them out at www.jakarta.com.au

On second thoughts I will hold off on my favourite patisserie until later. Stay tuned for more. I will write about it soon.
