Are workplaces?
Posted by: | CommentsThe question I asked myself today was, “Are workplaces now becoming too touchy feely?” My view on this subject will no doubt be only one of a million. I also note that every workplace is different. Our company has a new CEO, and although he is located in another city I had the chance to meet him recently. I really like this guy and how he thinks and operates. He is the kind of person who is fair and willing to listen, but he is the kind of person who won’t accept excuses as to why something isn’t done or accept bullshit. I like this because to me it’s a fair and professional way to run a business.
I spent a great deal of my working life in a business where deadlines meant money and you met them no matter what you had to do. I wouldn’t dream of not meeting a deadline. Not because it could cost me my job or the business hundreds of thousands of dollars but because it was my job.
However what I have found in the type of business I am in now is that although deadlines mean money and more, it just isn’t treated professionally. The culture is a bit too ‘oh it’ll be alright’ type of thing. If staff don’t meet deadlines they are told to fix it and offered help but it’s never really treated with the importance that it warrants. I find it almost unbelievable that people don’t have the work ethic that really should exist. Staff should manage their units, never be late with anything unless they raised it in advance and not just waited until someone brings it up, they should expect that sometimes they will be pulled up on things (and not treated with kit gloves) and they should ask for help if they need it. Now don’t get me wrong, some staff will be perfect at dealing with things on a professional level. However this belief that if you are not performing that, shit as long as you try then it’s ok. This mentality is crap.
Don’t misunderstand. I like a nice workplace but I just see the culture as a bit unprofessional. The downside of it is you end up with a situation where you have to treat people with kit gloves and there is a lack of a reality check as to what a workplace is. I know if I was in an accounting firm for example that this kind of behaviour would be unacceptable, but because it’s a personal services industry, then it is acceptable. This is crazy. I guess my theory is that it all comes back to work ethic.
Bullies are…
Posted by: | CommentsI have been pondering this post for a while. It was only a couple of weeks ago that we heard of Carl Walker-Hoover’s suicide, an 11 year old who was bullied. Now we have another, Jaheem Herrera who was also 11. Now although the news reported in both cases that anti-gay slurs were part of this I am not focused on that but of the actual bullying.
These two heartbreaking stories have come out of the US and to see these young kids killing themselves is devastating. When reading comments from the public about these stories and listening to the diverse range of perspectives on the bullying problem I felt I needed to write it down.
The comments ranged from teachers should do more, parents should do more, we are not teaching kids to be tough these days, government needs to address the issues and the list goes on and on. It really was every end of the spectrum.
Firstly I don’t really believe you can compare bullying today to even bullying in the late eighties, early nineties. Times have genuinely changed. Now bullying is a 24/7 business. If you are the subject of the attacks they will occur 24/7, one of the not so good aspects of the internet and information sharing. The other thing is that I have seen that bullying has got smarter (if you can call it that). Let me explain. When I was at school, there was some name calling and maybe the threats of fights and a little shoving. I’m not saying it couldn’t be ongoing or consistent, but the difference now is that it is more personal and malicious. The bully of today is more inclined to actually attack in a calculated manner. A bully will target you in the schoolyard, online and will often threaten violence. When I was at school, a threat of violence would mean being beaten up or similar. These days, it could mean being killed.
I do think (and I’m happy to debate this) that the society we are in accepts that if there is some bullying, well they are just kids. Unfortunately it’s attitudes like that which will stop the human race progressing. One of the comments I read said you will never stop this behaviour. I strongly disagree. I don’t think it would be easy however if tolerance for this type of behaviour was zero from the majority of parents, government, schools etc etc then it would stop.
I do agree that parents need to take a major share of responsibility and teach their kids that it’s not acceptable. At the same time they need to raise their kids to be strong and value themselves. If they do this then it would mean that peer pressure would stop this happening. It won’t work all the time but it does start in the home. At the same time, the fact is teachers have far less power to control kids now and that has to fall on the government’s shoulders. I mean, now a teacher can’t even touch a kid. If I was in a fight at school the teacher would grab me and drag me off. Now he teachers are too scared.
I could talk about his topic for hours but I will stop for now. I will just say that suicide at eleven is unacceptable. If you are not disgusted than maybe you are desensitised or just not really grasping what is happening out there. It is a new century and things have changed, but when things like this are happening it should be a wake up call to everyone.
Spoon Fed
Posted by: | CommentsIsn’t it amazing the no win situation you have in a workplace. There is always going to be a mix of people but you would expect that they would act like mature adults in their work ethic. Well ok, it turns out I was kidding myself.
Now the job for staff is quite big and full of barriers. Now when you have a lot of staff one of the things you expect is self management. That would be a nice dream. No, that’s unfair. We have staff who are brilliant at it. They come to work, achieve everything and go home and forget about work. That’s the perfect situation.
Anyway, if we just tell staff what to do and how to do it you end up with unhappy staff. However when you allow the staff the freedom to come up with new ideas and put them forward, you get some who complain you should be telling them what and how to do things. Unfortunately you can’t have it both ways because it is a team effort and everyone needs to work together.
Personally I have always liked it when staff manage themselves and achieve what they have to achieve, asking for assistance when needed and always keeping you informed of how things are going and if there are any issues.I hate micro managing.
But the reality is that in any workplace you have to deal with all kinds of people, the smart and the not so smart. It can just drive you insane. I guess some people just can’t work without being spoon fed.
Beauty
Posted by: | CommentsI am a believer in admiration of beauty. For me I find a lot of beauty in the male form. I also see beauty in nature, females, buildings and a lot of things. However primarily in the male form.
I received a great email this week from a guy in the US who is straight and one of the things he said when talking about my blog was that he thought the pictures I posted were beautiful. It is great when you hear that from a straight guy. I can’t explain that further but I guess it’s a sign that the pictures I chose to post are being perceived in the intension I have posted them which is for appreciation and not as something dirty or trashy.
By the way, I love the picture posted in this post. I think it is stunning. I guess I also see unusual beauty. I’ve been told that I have unusual taste in men. I do like nerds and guys who are not the standard beauty. Someone even pointed it out with my last picture post “Country Boy”. Apparently his angular features were too much for some. I thought he was beautiful. Interestingly I also get mixed responses when I post naked photo’s or more to the point pictures that show cock. I’m not sure why but I guess people who don’t like it generally don’t see the beauty in the shots that I see.
I also see some sexual pictures as beautiful. Yes they may have some erotic side to them but isn’t that beautiful too. I guess that depends on how you view sex. If you view it as just a biological act than you may have difficulty seeing the intimacy and beauty behind the shot, however for me if I ever post shots like that it’s because they are beautifully intimate to me.
The funny thing I find with other peoples views is that for some reason people like to email me and rarely leave comments. I don’t mind but I am just surprised. I would receive at least ten emails to every comment left on my blog. Just an interesting fact. The other interesting fact for my blog is that unlike many of my fellow bloggers I have never had an abusive comment from any religious fanatics. I’m not sure whether to feel left out or not lol.
Anyway, I will continue to post pictures that I appreciate and I do hope you all enjoy them.

Sex, good sex, is terribly hard to come by. Especially as you get older and know to expect more than the crumb of a soul would be partners extend in meager retribution for what should be a sacred space.
