Economics or Social Policy
Posted by: | CommentsHere in Australia we know that this country is far less progressive than we would like to believe. Don’t misunderstand, I am very proud to be an Australian and do think this is a great country. I just feel that many of the policy decisions and political promises are just band aids or alternatively deal with issues that are about financial survival for the nation. Now I know that I am being over simplistic but still if this country wants to truly be a world leader in innovation it needs to think outside of the box.
Firstly it needs to realise that just modelling itself after everyone else isn’t going to work. Australia needs to create it’s own identity. It needs to stop playing politics and start looking after what is best for the future of the nation. I could talk about gay marriage which to me is a no brainer. It’s progressive and shows a belief in the fact that all peopel are equal.
However one of the big picture things and reason for my post is that morale of the people is important. One way to improve morale and to show complete progressiveness would be to enforce a three day weekend. Now that might sound crazy however it’s not difficult. Just allow people to work longer hours over four days. Change business hours and legislate. Still have everyone work full time hours, just change the current two day weekend in industrial documents to three. Now I can sit here for hours and write about how it could work but that would probably be dull to read. However it’s not difficult.
The reason I would like to see this is that I know without a shadow of a doubt that it would help balance home and work and it would make people much happier. Every single person I know would work a couple of hours more each day to work a four day week. This would not only increase the countries morale but a three day weekend would mean more people would travel for weekend getaways, thus helping tourism. It would have a positive impact on families because of quality time available. The list would go on.
This is just one of my ponderings.

In the News – Crowned
Posted by: | CommentsI noticed in the new today the story of Sergio Garcia, the High School Senior who was voted Prom Queen. Sergio who is an openly gay student actually was voted for and won Prom Queen. Now he could have gone after Prom King but he himself felt he was better suited to being Prom Queen.
It’s a story worth reading and is another way that the world and gender roles is changing. In many ways I see this as great because someone was able to chose who he was and go after it. I think Prom Queen & Kings are quite outdated and I guess the students at this school agree.
The other thing it shows is that the world is changing. As I’ve mentioned before the youth of today are quite accepting. I mean there will always be some who for religious reasons won’t agree and there are always some rednecks but generally the world is more accepting. It is much more obvious with the younger generations and maybe their parents should take note.
Anyway, I thought it was a good news story.
Bogans in the WWW
Posted by: | CommentsSometimes it takes a while to realise there are a lot of bogans in the world. Well I’m sure they are not all bogans, some are just bitter and in need of a little lead.
One of the things I have learned from being openly on the world wide web with this blog is that there are a lot of people out there who will do anything possible to bring you down. To see this in obvious form just go to You Tube and check out anyone that has a Vlog. You will see a lot of nasty comments from people which are really personal. It’s one thing to leave a negative comment as an opinion because you have every right to do so, however being malicious and personal is just uncalled for.
One of the reasons this has been on my mind is that one of the Vloggers I follow, Carl has been going through some bitchy comments lately and like me in many ways just doesn’t understand why people do that. It upset him enough to publish a post about it. The post is called ‘Fuck You’ and you should watch it. Now you should also take the opportunity to watch some of his other posts because that will show you the kind of person he is. You can also see posts of Carl’s here under Video Blogs in the menu. The thing is in this instant, anyone with some level of maturity will be able to see that this is one of those guys you think to yourself, deserves the world.
My point is that unfortunately for those of us who want to share part of ourselves on the web we do leave ourselves open to all kinds of comments. For me I have gotten used to ignoring the bad stuff. In fact it’s only every now and then that I think about it these days and even then it’s not about what is being said but more often bewilderment at what kind of person has nothing better to do then go around the web trying to drag others down. It’s rather sad.
Unfortunately it does get to you after a while and I have seen many shut their blogs down because all the wanted to do was write and they ended up being harassed to the point where they were so disheartened it wasn’t worth it anymore. Even for me I have had to moderate all comments. I don’t mind negative comments but personal attacks just are not acceptable. Most personal attacks come through the contact me page now and even they have died down. I think the religious fanatics have become non existent now. I welcome feedback and even don’t mind the fanatics if they give an email address so I can reply. But alas I don’t think they have ever done that lol. Oh well.
Anyway, that’s enough for now but I hope you all have a great night.
The World Should Be Like This!!!
Posted by: | CommentsOn the 12th April I posted a clip for an advert where Central Station broke into dance. I know it was an advert but it really did make me cry. I really think that is something that should happen in the world. It reminded me of the Free Hugs campaign which you can be reminded of in the Hugs tab at the top of the page.
Anyway, I recently came across T-Mobile ads that are great and reflect the same feeling. Even though they are ads they still show me a world I think would be full of joy. Since the people in all the clips are not actors I’m sure these events would have brought a lot of joy to them on the day. So first go and watch the first one I published HERE and then watch the two below. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
What is Gay?
Posted by: | CommentsA few days ago someone said that they were gay because they liked having sex with men. When I quizzed him a little he said that he is actually Bi, but would never get into a relationship with a guy cause it didn’t appeal. As the conversation continued I discovered he really just liked male sex and nothing else.
That raises the question in my mind “What is Gay?”, or “What is Straight?”. Are these terms getting blurred. Now I have no problem with sexuality being diverse because even the Kinsey scale shows that there is a spectrum. However I am finding the definitions very confusing. It must be a nightmare for those in the dating world. Now also with the young thinking it’s cool to play both sides of the fence it can be very strange.
My view is that there is a big difference between saying you are gay and saying you like gay sex.As we know there are plenty of straight guys who like gay sex. But I see that if you say you are gay then you would be someone if you had and chose to be in a relationship it would be with someone of the same sex. If you say you are straight then you would, if you wanted see yourself in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex.
I see that gay or straight is about the intellectual and emotional connections not just sex. Just because you like to have gay sex doesn’t make you gay. If you would potentially have a emotional relationship with a man it may make you bi or gay if you don’t get the same connection with a woman.
I’m not saying everyone is like this with a number of people (more than in the past) identifying as bi, but it is something I see blurring. Maybe it doesn’t matter, maybe it does, however sometimes I have to admit it bugs me.
